Tulsa Public Schools offers a wide variety of instrumental, vocal, and general music programs.  Some of the many opportunities offered include:

Metro Honor Clinics and Concerts
Each year, Tulsa Public Schools sponsors district High School and Middle School Honor choirs, bands, orchestras, and jazz bands.  Students from all of our secondary schools come together to work with regionally and nationally recognized clinicians.  The rehearsals spread over two days culminates with a concert attended by family, friends, and community arts supporters.

Tulsa All City Music Festivals
Each year, students have the opportunity to perform in an All City Music Festival.  The festivals offer performance venues, feedback from notable music judges, and award for outstanding performances.  There are festivals for high school and middle school bands, orchestras, and choirs.

Elementary Music Festival
Every spring Tulsa Public elementary schools join thier musical talents into a massive combined concert of voices, instruments, and dance.  Elementary music teachers are invited to participate and lead musical pieces.  Singing, combined with Orff instrument accompaniment and movement make this concert the highlight of the spring for elementary schools.  TCC Van Trease Performing Arts Center graciously host this event each year.

Elementary General Music

General music in elementary school provides students with experiences in singing, instrument play and movement. Students gain understanding in the elements of music. They also gain vocal and instrumental skills through instruments such as percussion and recorders.

•Instrumental music instruction is a part of the core curriculum in the sixth grade in the Tulsa Public School District. During the first year, students study tone production, instrument fingerings, rhythms, instrument care, and basic musical terms. Performance skills on simple melodies are developed and students are given several opportunities to perform in various concerts and band competitions.

•In addition to further development of their basic fundamental skills, these bands offer a variety of performance opportunities as the students progress into the seventh and eighth grade. These include concerts, pep rallies, football games and various contests. Students are also encouraged to participate in individual events such as the Metro Honor Middle School Band tryouts and Metro Honor Middle School Jazz Band tryouts.

Students may enter into band programs beginning in 6th grade at the following schools:
Byrd, Carver, Cleveland, Clinton, Edison, Foster, Gilcrease, Hamilton, Lewis and CLark, Madison, Nimitz, Thoreau, Whitney and Wilson

•Band studies at the high school level include Marching, Symphonic, Concert and Jazz Ensembles. These ensembles have a variety of performance opportunities including concerts, community performances, football games, pep rallies, athletic events, and state-wide competitions.
